Spring Show litters
Cute little StormXKC1 babies :) 1 black doe, 1 black tort doe, 1 blue tort doe and 1 white buck. These kits have a lot of potential. Storm is out of AshesXBTC1. KC1 is out of Kaze Kage an AshesXWind son and Cinnamon a broken tort from Lake Country Rabbitry.
DRCBA 2013 comes to an end..
2013 show season went really well. We wont the Mini Rex high points in the Sweepstakes again with 1118 points! Last year we won with 1141!
Whites
I will now be breeding for REW in my herd :) I can't say no..my first rabbit as a kid was a rew and they keep on popping up in litters so why not shoot for em!
2013 ARBA Convention!
Convention in PA was a great experience. We placed well for our first time showing at a convention :)
4th place blue senior doe
8th place blue senior buck
3rd place tort junior buck
6th place tort senior doe
Next years convention is in Texas! We may go to that one.

Mini Rex Nationals, Midland Michigan.
Kaze Kage-12/16 open and 2/6 day after
Kirara- no place open and 14/26 day after.
Shiro- 13/18 open and they didn't write down placing for day after.
BC Tort senior doe 3/7 open
Nationals was an interesting adventure. I met up with some friends from the U.S and had a pretty good time. I ended up bringing 4 animals home. 1 black senior doe who was bred to a broken tort buck, a rew buck, 1 broken black buck from Roger's lines that I wanted to add into my herd and 1 tort doe. I have been wanting another BC rabbit for awhile so I finally got one :) and a tort at that!

Fulton, New York Double Show
The show went well. We stayed at a friends place in Jordan Station at a bed and breakfast the night before. The drive was nice but chilly and the rabbits did pretty well :) It was a double show. My tort senior doe CB1 almost took breed in the first show! The judge said if she was in coat she would have taken it! Darn tort coats!!! Everyone else needed to grow more :) Tirimasu got good comments as well.
Ruby Eyed Whites
For the past year I have had pop out whites from my litters. I have dabbled in whites a couple years back and ended up not pursuing the variety simply because they get dirty way too fast and at the time when I sold pets they were not popular. I have two rabbits that carry the REW gene. Glitter and Ashes have produced them for me as the buck they were bred to carried white without me knowing! sneaky buck. Cinnamon and Ashes have a common white ancestor as they are from the same rabbitry, so she too most likely carries the white gene but what she was bred to (blue tort) however did not carry it. I don't plan on working on the whites but since they may be genetic solid or broken blue torts which I am working on I may keep one or two around if the type is up to par.
I do have to admit though..they are pretty cute! (ashes recent whites below)

Sable Point
Holy cow! Today I was really surprised! one of Cinnamon babies appear to be a Sable Point!!! I cannot believe this! BTC3 is a sneaky buck indeed! Apparently because he carried REW and the mother carried the chl gene this little one has appeared! I have always wanted sable point but I could never find ones that I liked enough to buy. This kit may kick start a mini sable point program!
Unfortunately Cinnamon has had 3 kits fade..1 of which was the sable point :( the two other blue torts..very sad

Blue Tort
I have been setting up the building blocks in my herd to produce the variety Blue Tort. Blue Tort is a dilute of Tort. To produce a blue tort you need to have both parents carry "Dilute" and "Tort". I have more black in my herd opposed to chocolate so it has been easier to produce blue tort. I sold a broken black buck to my breeder friend Vicky Day and she bred him to a blue doe, that blue doe in turn produced 1 broken black, 1 broken blue and 1 broken tort doe. I seen her at the Christmas party and long story short I came home with a lovely little broken tort doe named Glitter and she carried dilute! So she was bred to my broken tort buck BTC3 and they produced 2 broken blue torts and 1 REW..he secretly carried REW..! Ack! These kits will be important to my herd in the future. I also have Secret a broken black doe with a blue spot that carries dilute. She was bred to a broken tort but since she does not carry tort none were produced, BUT those kits will carry tort!
I picked up a blue tort buck at Pasrba, and even though his type isn't as typy as I would like he doesn't have any major faults. I bred him to a bunch of does to test him out and if he can out produce himself I will keep him around as I LOVE his color. He is really friendly as well. He goes back to some of Beth Collins lines so he carries lilac and blue. He could be an asset to the chocolate tort program that hasn't been started yet. Sam Barrios in California has a chocolate tort doe kit pop out in a litter so I am poking at her to have it for nationals haha!
This year will be grand, I have a lot of litters and lots of future prospects<3

PASBRA aftermath
So the drive down was long and painful! We realized at the last moment that Lee had an Expired passport.....I had to call the US/CAN boarder and they said since it was only 2 months expired we had a chance of getting him over the boarder!! We were able to cross and the drive down was snow squall and clear roads. We got to the Hotel at 3:30am....had almost 3 hours of sleep and off to the show room we went! I took BOV blue in Open with Ashes and BOV blue in Specialty. I also took 2 BOSV with Lucy :) I was pretty pleased! The little black jr buck from Ashes got very excellent comments!
I sold 7 rabbits :) and I brought home 3! a broken black junior buck with a hell of a solid back end! a tort senior doe and a broken chocolate otter junior doe whose mother is WOW..amazing! she will be a nice brood doe even though I don't do otter haha. I also picked up a blue tort for "eye candy" he doesn't have the best type..but at least he has fur, head and ear+loin so I may or may not use him for breeding..or just stare at him until I produce a blue tort!

PASRBA~
Myself and Lee will be traveling to Lebanon in Pennsylvania State! I will only be bringing a small amount of rabbits to show and I have presold around 6 rabbits and selling one on site. I will also be offering transport from CA-PA and back for those who are interested. I am asking $10.
We will be bringing back 3 animals for myself and here are two so far from Hop Chocolate Rabbitry. We asked for very full rabbits with very good loin and upper and lower HQ. So that is what we are getting! I am seeing the final rabbit when we get to the show room :)

ARBA
Red Velvet Rabbitry is now an official member of ARBA(American Rabbit Breeders Association) :) We are very happy about this as we have been waiting for a long time! Now we just have to register our rabbitry name and we're good to go!
drcba Christmas party
The Christmas part was excellent! I had a great time as well as seen many of my show friends :) it was a great day. I have been elected to be on the board of directors for 2013 :) I am excited by this! I also won sweepstakes this year with 1141 points in Mini Rex! So proud! It was a wonderful year and I'm glad I could improve my stock so much and have many great friends and mentors around me!
Rockton (arba sanctioned show)
Rockton is the last show of the year for us here in Ontario. It is usually a triple show held with a Mini Rex Specialty. We took BOB show A under Derek Poole with Lake Country's Cinnamon our broken tort senior doe so she received 1 leg. My little broken tort junior buck got nice comments but needs to grow as he was the smallest in the litter. My two home bred tort does got excellent comments on type but were not in the best coat. I bought a nice broken black senior buck name ABEL from a lady who came from New York. Her rabbitry is called This'n That rabbitry. He is out of Martin's lines. I seen him last year as a junior :) He is a registered grand champion. I love his head and ear, especially fur and his body is nice as well.
It was a long day but a English Angora took BIS show A and a English Angora took BIS show B :)

DRCBA
This year was excellent for me and my rabbits. We took some excellent placings and got really good comments on our home bred stock. Show season went by way too quick for my liking as we only have under 20 shows from April-November and Winter we do not show. However some of us travel to the USA there is still shows going on throughout the winter time. Some exciting news, I have just found out that I am 1st in points for Mini Rex sitting at 1116. My good competitor Maureen Dyke is just shy from me with 1053. I am really really proud of my rabbits and what I have achieved thus far. The Royal Winter Fair is this weekend and hopefully I can hold top points in Mini Rex!!
Convention
This year I was unable to go to Convention in Wichita, Kansas. Next year I will attend for sure! BIS Open went to an English Angora and BIS Youth went to a Netherland Dwarf. My breeder friend Beth Collins brought back 4 animals for me. I have since received them and I can say I am pretty happy with what I have got. My favorite being the broken tort senior doe and tort junior doe. I had also sent a rabbit with Beth from Butter Toffee and CYY30 a little broken tort junior buck. My pick of the litter who has gone to live with my friend Sam Barrios in California. She posted a picture of him and I haven't seen him in a couple weeks but WOW has he matured into one nice rabbit! I should have kept him ;) She really likes him so I hope he does well for her!
Dorchester(arba sanctioned show)
Dorchester-London is always a great little show. That day we met some new people from Nova Scotia! They were wonderful, very friendly and open to chit-chat. They took 4 rabbits from me. 1 broken black senior buck "Wind" 1 black junior doe "Myra" 1 broken blue junior doe who is sister to Myra and a broken black junior buck. They also took along for another breeder out in NS 1 broken tort senior doe "Baci", 1 broken tort junior buck and 1 tort junior doe. I hope those rabbits do well for them out there!
That day we took BOB show A with Wind my broken black senior buck and BOS with Galuzzi's LB2 a broken chocolate senior doe under Alicia Maxwell. Show B we were taken back by winning another BOB with Wind! and BOS went to Betty Fletcher with a very nice black otter junior under Chuck Peltham. I was very pleased and surprised by the winnings! Last year a rabbit I bought from Raspberry Trails won BOBx2 as well! Wind is now living in NS and his new owner is thrilled with having him!

Litters and breedings
This year went really well for my animals and I am proud that they have taken such high placings. My 2nd generations are just old enough to show but are not primed out. Once they are primed out there will be no shows until next April so just like what happened last year I had a number of nice animals but when they were in prime, show season was over ARGH!
I will be breeding a select number of animals before the show season ends so that I can get a good start for the spring shows. I can't believe the season is almost over! I will have to show in the states as my rabbits are finally getting to the level where they can compete with American show rabbits. Next year will be awesome!! I cannot wait to see what I will be producing. Hard work, dedication and love for the breed will shine through!
Slowly but surely we are building our own line of quality Mini Rex!

Spencerville
This was a very nice show. Me and the rabbits carpooled with Beth Collins of FamilyPrideRabbitry. We had together about 63 animals in the van! including a few Guinea Pigs :) We stayed over the Friday night and dropped off the show animals to the show room. The hotel was excellent! Very clean and comfortable. We also woke up to the St.Lawrence Seaway. We had not noticed the night before because it was so dark. The triple show went well. I met a lot of new and old breeders. I also learned a lot about a few different breeds including Belgium Hares! Magnificent rabbits they are! If I only had the room :( My rabbits did very well in all 3 shows and my black senior doe Aritzia was BOSB in Show 3. Everyone else gave excellent comments to my guys but were beat out by primed out rabbits who were in excellent condition. My guys has been to so many shows this month it had worn them down. Hopefully next year I will be able to attend this show again as I really enjoyed it :)

Mini Rex National's 2012
National's went well. I met a lot of breeders I had talked to over the internet but had never met. Seen a lot of nice rabbits as well. I traveled with Beth Collins to Wilmington Ohio. Quite a long drive. I had not sent in my entries in time so I did not bring any rabbits with me but I did bring along a 6 hole carrier for rabbits I was bringing back. Congrat's to Beth for taking BOV Lilac and BEW! And BOV Lilac Specialty on Sunday. I brought back 2 prebought rabbits a broken tort and a broken black and there was so many sale rabbits cooped so I went shopping! I ended up getting 2 does a blue and a black and a tort buck.
Next year I WILL be ready for Nationals!
